Get ready to transport your kitchen to the sun-kissed shores of the Caribbean with our Island Delight Bun & Cheese! We're about to embark on a baking journey filled with laughter, kneading, and the irresistible aroma of freshly baked delights. Let the tropical baking adventure begin!

Ingredients


For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons soft butter

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 pinch nutmeg (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

  • 3/4 cup lukewarm milk

For the Syrup:

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

For the Cheese:

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, sliced

Preparation

For the Dough:

  1. In a large bowl, mix lukewarm milk and yeast. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

  2. In another bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract.

  3. Add the yeast/milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.

  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  5. Add raisins (optional) and knead for an additional 2 minutes.

  6. Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour in a warm place.

  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface, then fold it into 4. Let it rest for another hour.

  8. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces, roll them up, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  9. Let the dough balls rest for 25 minutes.

  10. Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C).

  11. Score the buns with a small knife to create a grid.

  12. Bake for 35 minutes.

Syrup:

  1. Just before removing the buns from the oven, boil water and sugar in a saucepan for 2 minutes.

  2. Brush the buns with the syrup as soon as they come out of the oven.

Serve: Let the buns cool and enjoy them with slices of cheese.
